A WCP/Virgin Hotels collaboration
Chicago-based composer/songwriter Daniel Knox has long been known for darkly distorting traditional American popular song styles. His latest work signals a new, more wide-ranging songwriting that invites listeners into his twisted world of time travel, abandoned shopping centers, and growing up in a slowly fading middle America.
Knox has performed and collaborated with many artists including Rufus Wainwright, the Handsome Family, David Lynch and Jarvis Cocker to name a few. He has scored for theater and film, including Chris Hefner’s The Poisoner.

The Floating Museum is a mobile exhibition structure designed to challenge traditional ideas surrounding museum practice and blends creative place-making, activism and exhibition design. Inspired by the founding and evolution of the DuSable Museum of African American History, Floating Museum will move by land and water through the city of Chicago in 2016 and 2017. The mobile structure, curatorial platform and programing will start at the DuSable Museum on Chicago’s south side, move through the Park District and eventually float down the Chicago River to DuSable Point next to Navy Pier.

Mexican artist and sculptor Rodrigo Lara Zendeja'’s work surveys politics, immigration, and social justice, often addressing the emotional fragmentation that happens in relocating to another country. He has also tackled difficult topics of corruption in Mexican politics and the Catholic Church through his figurative sculptures.

THE QUEEN OF LUXURIA
Carron Little is a public performance artist known as The Queen of Luxuria. Her body of work employs methods of social practice, collecting people’s personal stories that she transforms into poems, which then become quintessential elements of her art and performances. The work becomes a space where multiple stories are exchanged, celebrating the diversity of what it means to be human in all our complexity.

NICOLAS HENRY
A Chicago Tale, by award-winning French photographer Nicolas Henry, presents a narrative taking place on Chicago’s south side. Using multi-layered methods that incorporate theatrical techniques, cinematic lighting, handmade prop and set making, Henry's photographic installations blur the lines between fiction and reality. Produced in partnership with TAP, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and The Floating Museum, the Chicago series is part of a larger international project titled “Worlds in the Making”. The new images will make their United States debut at the residence of French Consul General Vincent Floreani that evening.

DOMINIC JOHNSON & NATHAN PECK:
Beats, the Bauhaus, and the Birth of Abstract Film
Presenting a selection of works featuring an original live score by musician Dominic Johnson, with remarks and visual direction from Nathan Peck, Chicago Art Department co-founder and chair of the art department at St. Xavier University.
We'll delve into a survey of non-representational films from the 1920s and an exploration of the theory and practice of the artists involved, with special emphasis placed on the German art movement/school known as the Bauhaus and it's teacher (and eventual Chicagoan) Moholy-Nagy.
